MOBILE — Judge George Hardesty refused to allow bond Thursday for three suspects who have been charged with burglary and attempted murder in the beating of 86-year-old Carroll Jordan of Chickasaw.
DeAngelo Smith, 19, Carlos Nottingham, 20, and Yasmine Munnerlyn, 18, faced a preliminary hearing during which it was revealed that Munnerlyn is pregnant with Smith’s child and had been released on good behavior after being charged with domestic violence against her mother.
The three were initially charged with attempted murder and first-degree burglary in the beating on Jan. 27. Jordan, who was hospitalized as a result of the injuries he suffered, later died and the charges were upgraded to capital murder.
Those charges were dropped when an autopsy determined that Jordan died from an aortic aneurysm, which was not related to the injuries he suffered in the beating, Mobile County District Attorney Ashley Rich said.
If convicted on the original charges, all three suspects face 20 to 99 years in prison for each charge, and Rich said each would have to serve the sentence for one term before serving the other.
