Clarke County’s dry spell in fourth period is costly in 49-43 loss to Providence Christian

Annabeth Townsend scored 22 points and Providence Christian went on an 18-5 run in the fourth period to beat Clarke County’s girls 49-43 Tuesday in the Class 2A South Regional semifinals at Montgomery’s Garrett Coliseum.

Jayla Horn scored 13 points, Aleah Watkins 12 and Jakiyah Thomas 10 for the Bulldogs, who led for 21:11 but fell to defeat and finished 18-6.

Watkins and Tallyah Johnson had 9 rebounds apiece.

Clarke County led 24-17 at halftime and 38-36 after three periods before its scoring drought in the fourth period. The Bulldogs also suffered 17 turnovers, four coming in the final 2:12 of the game, in which CCHS went scoreless. Providence Christian outscored the Bulldogs 17-10 off the turnovers.
