Clarke County High School football coach Rob Carter was arrested Friday afternoon in Niceville, Fla., after being placed on administrative leave earlier this week, according to the Clarke County Sheriff’s Department.
Carter is being investigated for having an improper relationship with a student, according to two sources with knowledge of the situation.
Carter was taken into custody by the Niceville Police Department on warrants issued by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. He is currently being held at the Okaloosa County Jail and is awaiting extradition to Clarke County. No specific time has been given for his return.
The Clarke County Board of Education confirmed that Carter was placed on administrative leave and separated from his school duties earlier this week. This action followed the launch of an investigation led by the Grove Hill Police Department, Clarke County Sheriff’s Office and the 1st Judicial Major Crimes Task Force.
Carter, a native of Frisco City, was hired in 2023 as the Bulldogs’ head coach. He was 15-10 in two seasons, winning the 2A Region 1 title both times.
Before joining Clarke County, Carter was the head coach at Beauregard High School, where he led the team to the Class 5A state championship in 2016. He also spent eight years as an assistant at Beauregard and held assistant coaching roles at Crenshaw Christian, Russell County and Lanett.
