SARALAND — Jamison Roberts threw for three touchdowns and rushed for three more as the No. 3-ranked, unbeaten Spartans rolled past the Yellow Jackets.
Roberts was 16-of-18 passing — including completing his final seven passes — for 170 yards and three touchdowns and scored on runs of 18 and 57 yards and 1 yard. The scoring passes covered 8 and 11 yards to Deshawn Spencer and 12 yards to A.J. Martin. “(McGill-Toolen) came out and played three safeties and a nickel out of respect for Jamison and our receivers,” Spartans coach Jeff Kelly said. “We had to run the ball and take some other deep throws and I felt that was a really good test for Jamison and his development to see that type of scheme.”
Blaine Barre was 9-of-21 passing for 71 yards and an interception, Seth DeMouey had a TD run and Joseph Parrino had a 39-yard field goal for the Jackets (1-4, 1-3), who had three turnovers.
“We just didn’t execute very well,” McGill-Toolen coach David Faulkner said. “Defensively, we would get them in some third and fourth downs but we couldn’t get off the field. We’ve struggled on offense for the last three weeks. We’re not very good on third down and we’re not very good in the red zone.”
