Staff Report

Former Jackson assistant coach Ryan Little was selected as the Aggies’ new head football coach Friday by the Clarke County Board of Education.

Little succeeds Cody Flournoy, who left to take the Central Phenix City job after leading Jackson to the last two Class 4A state championships. He will try to become the third straight coach to win at least one state title with the Aggies. Little coached under Danny Powell and helped to guide Jackson to the 2011 Class 4A state title.

“I really can’t explain how excited I am to come back to Jackson as the head coach,” Little said. “I thoroughly enjoyed coaching here under coach Powell. These are some of the best kids, families and fans in the state. I greatly appreciate the faith everyone has in me to continue to build on the great program that is in place and I am looking forward to getting started.”

Little was most recently an assistant coach under Jeff Kelly at Saraland and was the head coach at Chickasaw and Fruitdale, where he went 11-9 in two years with the Chieftains and 3-7 in one year with the Pirates.

“Ryan has one of the greatest football minds south of Montgomery,” Jackson High Principal Charles Alford said. “His name continued to come up time and again as I was searching for the next head football coach. He understands that he’s filling really big shoes in coach Flournoy and he understands Jackson. He was here for a year or two a few years back and I worked with him at T.R. Miller for a short time.”
