Irv Mulligan rushed for 115 yards on 23 carries while Jason Brown was 14-of-26 passing for 202 yards and three touchdowns as Jackson State beat Alabama A&M 45-30 in the Gulf Coast Challenge Saturday night at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
Dylan Watson kicked a 40-yard field goal, Jacobian Morgan had two touchdown runs of 4 yards and 1 yard, Ahmad Miller had a 38-yard TD run, Seven McGee had two scoring receptions and Fabian McCray a TD catch for JSU (4-2, 2-1 SWAC East Division).
For Alabama A&M (3-3, 1-2), backup quarterback Xavier Lankford, who came in for starter Qunicy Casey, was 21-of-36 passing for 265 yards and two touchdowns and scored twice more on the ground. Cameron Young had eight receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown and Darin Turner added a scoring catch.
JSU jumped out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead before A&M cut it to 21-7. Then Brown tossed touchdown strikes of 47 yards to McCray and 5 yards to McGee to stretch the lead to 35-7 at halftime.
Watson’s field goal made it 38-7 early in the third quarter and JSU held off an A&M rally.
