Terry Curtis vs. Danny Horn historic highlight as AHSAA playoffs open

The playoff pairings for the AHSAA playoffs have been set and are listed below for all teams of interest in the Call News coverage area. The Super 7 is at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Dec. 6-8.

Among the highlights in the first round is a historic first meeting between UMS-Wright coach Terry Curtis and Central Clay County coach Danny Horn in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs in Lineville. Curtis is the all-time winningest coach in state history at 354-97 and Horn is close behind at No. 2 with a 351-96 record. Both have eight state championships.

The Bulldogs (6-4), who have made the playoffs in 25 straight seasons under Curtis, will try to avoid their first first-round playoff loss since 2010. Horn’s Vols (10-0) are ranked No. 3.

In Class 7A, No. 3-ranked Mary G. Montgomery goes for the first playoff win in school history when the Vikings (10-0) host No. 4 Dothan (8-2). MGM is 0-8 in the playoffs.
