Vigor four-star offensive tackle Micah DeBose committed to the University of Alabama during a recruiting trip on Saturday.
DeBose (6-5, 315) chose the Crimson Tide over LSU, Ohio State and Florida. DeBose originally committed to Georgia in January 2023 before decommitting in December.
DeBose made the commitment during his official visit to UA, during which freshman wide receiver and former Saraland star Ryan Williams streamed the decision on his Instagram account. Tide coach Kalen DeBoer was on hand to congratulate DeBose.
“It showed the love they had for me,” DeBose said. “Coach DeBoer said I made the right decision. I’m blessed that I went through the process but I’m glad it’s over so I can concentrate on football. My family felt I made the right decision; they’re all on board.”
DeBose is the No. 8-ranked offensive tackle in the national 2025 class, the No. 89 player in the country and the No. 8 prospect in Alabama, according to 247 Sports’ composite rankings.
DeBose is a “big-bodied offensive lineman with left tackle experience who could potentially play outside or on the interior at the high-major level,” 247 Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks said. “Plays with adequate bend but sometimes stands up and gets out over his feet when engaged, which compromises body control and leverage. Flashes some jarring punch power and drive-blocking conviction that will finish targets to the ground. Size and functional strength often overwhelm high school opponents. Hand placement is not a weakness but hands can be stickier when engaged. Can improve overall body control but displays encouraging kick-slide mobility.”
With his commitment to Alabama, DeBose said he hopes to follow in the footsteps of Roosevelt Patterson, another Vigor and Tide alumnus who became a star on Alabama’s offensive line and a key member of the 1992 national championship team.
“I see myself being another Roosevelt Patterson,” DeBose said. “I feel like I can make an impact just like he did.”
DeBose said in last week’s Call News that he wasn’t on Alabama’s radar until DeBoer took over as head coach.
“Early on, Alabama wasn’t really interested in me,” DeBose said. “I’m thankful that they showed interest in me later on in the process. That had something to do with the new staff. I’m guessing under the old staff I wasn’t a top guy for them.”
DeBose said he developed a good relationship with DeBoer and offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic.
DeBose’s commitment adds to a strong recruiting class in DeBoer’s first season, which includes offensive line commits Jackson Lloyd (Carmel, Calif.), Michael Carroll (Central Bucks East, Doylestown, Pa.) and Mal Waldrep (Central-Phenix City).
“I think all of us in the next three years should be NFL draftees,” DeBose said. “We’ve had a great recruiting class so far but there are still some guys we’re still pursuing. I think the reason coach DeBoer has been successful with having a great recruiting season so far is because the guys are excited about a new era (in Alabama football). We want to be a part of that.”
