McGill-Toolen upsets Spanish Fort; Saraland, Vigor, UMS-Wright romp and Leroy, Clarke County clinch titles

Andrew Murchison accounted for a pair of touchdowns to lead visiting McGill-Toolen to a 20-14 upset of No. 7-ranked Spanish Fort Friday night.
Murchison scored on an 8-yard run and tossed an 11-yard scoring pass to Ladarien Miller, who rushed for 156 yards on 25 carries.
The Yellow Jackets’ defense forced a pair of interceptions and held the Toros to a season-low 14 points. Jack O’Neil booted field goals of 37 and 42 yards for McGill-Toolen (5-4, 4-3 6A Region 1), which has the inside track on the fourth playoff seed from the region.

K.J. Lacey was 21-of-31 passing for 254 yards and three touchdowns as the top-ranked Spartans rolled in Theodore.
C.D. Gill caught eight passes for 119 yards, DeShawn Spencer six for 103 and Santae McWilliams added 84 yards on 13 carries to pace Saraland (9-0, 8-0 6A Region 1).
Gill caught a 21-yard TD pass, Jaxon Roberts’ sack and forced fumble was returned 6 yards for a score by Antonio Coleman, Spencer caught a 39-yard TD, Larry Edwards a 20-yard scoring reception, McWilliams added an 8-yard TD run and Jamison Roberts threw a 19-yard scoring pass to Deuce Scott.

The No. 3 Wolves got four touchdown runs in a rout of the visiting Red Raiders.
Deandre Chambers scored on a 2-yard run, Carlos Benjamin scored on a 1-yard run and Demetris Johnson scored on runs of 2 and 8 yards for Vigor (9-0, 7-0 5A Region 1). Dylan Jackson tossed TD passes of 16 yards to Zykarious Wilson and 28 yards to Gerritt Holcombe. Jackson completed 11 of 17 passes for 167 yards.

UMS-Wright 35, Faith Academy 0
Bo Wills rushed for 136 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown as the Bulldogs shut out the visiting Rams.
Wills had a 6-yard TD run while Perry Hand ran for 53 yards on seven carries, including a 19-yard scamper for another score.
Max Fowler ran 11 yards for a TD and threw a 16-yard scoring pass to Denton Elliott as UMS-Wright led 28-0 at halftime. James Hollon added a 6-yard TD run in the second half for the Bulldogs (4-5, 4-3 5A Region 1), which clinched a spot in the playoffs for the 26th consecutive year under coach Terry Curtis.

Leroy 19, Millry 7
Brayden Dixon threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns to lead the two-time defending state champion Bears to the 1A Region 1 title.
The Wildcats led 7-0 early with a 30-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jackson Waite to Wesley McIlwain in the first quarter. Leroy (9-1, 7-0) answered in the second quarter when Ja’Kavien Collins, who finished with 124 yards on 17 carries, powered into the end zone on a 1-yard run to tie it 7-7.
Dixon and Reed connected on a pair of 40-yard scoring passes in the third and fourth quarters to take control.
Dixon was 9-of-14 passing for 187 yards and Reed had six receptions for 95 yards.

Clarke Co. 46, Washington Co. 12
The Bulldogs won their 22nd straight region game and fourth consecutive region championship as Hayden Dotson scored on an 11-yard run and recovered a fumble for a TD and DaMyon Horn returned an interception 82 yards for a touchdown.
Ethan Henson led CCHS in rushing with 55 yards and a TD on five attempts. TaMyus Pugh was 4-of-4 passing for 56 yards.
Washington County’s Kelin May hit Tre Smith for a 60-yard TD pass on the first play of the game.
