Baker edges Hewitt-Trussville in 2 OTs; Vigor, Williamson, Jackson, UMS-Wright, St. Paul’s among other first-round winners

MOBILE — Blayne Munson overcame two missed field goals by nailing a 22-yard attempt in the second overtime to lift Baker to a 17-14 win over Hewitt-Trussville in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs Friday night.

After the Hornets took the lead in overtime, Zack Williams and Kaden Moorer combined to sack Noah Robbins on fourth-and-1 to end the game.

Denarrius Crawford scored on a 9-yard run in the third quarter as the Huskies went up 7-0.

Baker’s Jailen Wheeler tied the game with a 2-yard run late in the quarter.

In the first overtime, Robbins threw a 10-yard TD pass to Dylan Cope to put Hewitt-Trussville up 14-7.

The Hornets answered in one play when Jawon Springs raced 10 yards for a score to tie it 14-14.

Landon Duckworth completed 7 of 10 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns as the No. 1-ranked Aggies opened the Class 4A postseason with a rout.

Duckworth connected with E.J. Crowell for TD passes of 30 and 70 yards and Junior Payne on a 20-yarder.

Jackson’s defense dominated, with Victor Darrington, Jaiden McDonald and Jayden Tate each returning fumbles for touchdowns.

Jamarion Gordon opened the scoring with an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Williamson 46,

Alvin Dinkins threw two touchdown passes and ran for a TD as the Lions blasted the Bears in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

Ellis McGaskin added scoring runs of 11 and 24 yards, Jaylen Scott caught a 15-yard TD pass from Dinkins and had an 86-yard pick-six.

Keyante Pettaway returned a punt 35 yards for a TD and John Austin caught a 14-yard scoring pass.

Carlos Benjamin ran for 112 yards on 13 carries and had touchdown runs of 27 and 9 yards as the No. 3 Wolves rolled to victory in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs at Wolfpack Stadium.

Dylan Jackson completed 8 of 13 passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns of 10 yards apiece to Kevin Brisker and Jamarion Osborne.

Osborne also had a 26-yard touchdown run, Demetris Johnson scored on an 8-yard run and Miguel Wilson intercepted two passes, including a 28-yard pick-six.

TaMyus Pugh threw two second-quarter touchdown passes to lead the Bulldogs to victory in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.

Ethan Henson, Jamarcus Washington and Hayden Dotson added touchdown runs of 39, 4 and 6 yards, respectively.

Jamarcus Washington returned the opening kickoff of the second half 84 yards for a touchdown.
