UMS-Wright stays alive; Saraland, Jackson, Millry advance in playoffs

MOBILE — Defensive back David Lott blocked an extra point and intercepted a pass to secure UMS-Wright’s 7-6 win over Andalusia in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs Friday night at Cooper Stadium.
The Bulldogs used a 76-yard, 12-play drive that burned up 6½ minutes to score all the points they needed on Max Fowler’s 28-yard touchdown pass to Bo Wills with 5:22 left in the first quarter. Kingston Phan booted the all-important extra point.
Two plays later, on Andalusia’s first possession, Derrick Jones busted up the middle and raced 73 yards to cut the lead to 7-6. Lott then blocked the PAT attempt.
UMS-Wright’s defense held Andalusia to just 113 total yards.

SARALAND — K.J. Lacey reached a milestone by surpassing 10,000 career passing yards as the No. 1-ranked Spartans rolled to victory in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs.
Lacey was 15-of-23 passing for 142 yards and three touchdowns, all to C.D. Gill on throws of 38, 15 and 6 yards.
Santae McWilliams ran for 152 yards on 17 carries and had TD runs of 15 and 20 yards and Deshawn Spencer scored on a 5-yard run.

JACKSON — Landon Duckworth passed for 307 yards and four touchdowns in a Class 4A second-round rout.
Duckworth opened the scoring with a 2-yard TD run, followed by a 20-yard touchdown pass to Keeyun Chapman and a 30-yard strike to Jamarrion Gordon in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Duckworth threw scoring passes to Junior Payne and Omarion King. E.J. Crowell added a 50-yard TD run and Jay Morris hit Isaiah Gladney for a 50-yard score to cap the shutout.

MILLRY — Jackson Waite accounted for four touchdowns to lead the Wildcats’ Class 1A second-round victory.
The senior quarterback scored on runs of 2 and 8 yards and threw TD passes of 8 yards to Landon Doggette and 41 yards to Jquan Stewart. Waite was 16-of-21 passing for 166 yards.
Millry’s fifth touchdown came from Landon Doggett, who scored from 4 yards out in the third quarter.
The Wildcats led 21-0 at the half before McKenzie charged back.

MOBILE — Quarterback Jordan Holmes rushed for 212 yards and three touchdowns and threw for another score as the visiting Patriots stunned the Saints in the Class 6A second round.
Holmes threw a 26-yard touchdown to Patrick Carter, then Ja’Michael Jones ran for a 24-yard TD as Pike Road went up 15-0.
Holmes scored on a 2-yard run in the second quarter for a 23-0 halftime lead. Holmes recovered his own fumble and raced 79 yards to make the score 30-0 early in the third quarter.
Kenny Johnson tossed a 9-yard scoring pass to Carson Stephens in the third quarter to cut the lead to 30-6 but Holmes added a 66-yard TD run in the third and Jones scored on a 4-yard run in the fourth.
Montgomery Catholic 43,
Citronelle 0
CITRONELLE — Freshman quarterback Kingston Preyear tossed a pair of touchdown passes as the No. 1-ranked Knights blasted the Wildcats in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs.
Preyear completed 9 of 12 passes for 155 yards as Montgomery Catholic won its 26th game in a row.
Citronelle was held to 82 yards of total offense and was shut out for the first time this season but the Wildcats (9-3) won nine games for the first time since 2004.
