SARALAND — One man was killed Wednesday in a shootout with multiple law enforcement agencies in Saraland.
Juan Jose Puente Jr. was shot and killed by officers after he fired at them first on two occasions, according to Mobile County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lori Myles.
The incident started when the MCSO’s Internet Crimes Against Children unit attempted to execute warrants on Puente at his home. Deputies pulled Puente over on Shelton Beach Road as he was leaving his home on Ideal Avenue and was tased when he refused to get out of his vehicle when instructed to, according to the MCSO.
Puente fled in his vehicle and when a pit maneuver failed to disable it, Puente went back to his home and barricaded himself inside his vehicle in his garage, according to the MCSO.
Puente then fired on MCSO hostage negotiators, K9 units, members of the district attorney’s office and Saraland police outside the home. Officers returned fire and negotiators tried without success for 30 minutes to convince Puente to surrender. He continued to shoot at law enforcement and was shot and killed, according to the MCSO.
