Star Baker High School guard Labaron Philon, the state’s reigning Mr. Basketball, announced on social media Saturday night he is transferring to Link Academy in Branson, Mo.
Philon (6-4, 177) who committed to Auburn in February, then decommitted in April, averaged 35 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists during the 2022-23 season. He has been the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Class 7A Player of the Year the last two years, and is ranked as the state’s top player and 26th nationally by 247 Sports.
According to its website, Link Academy has three basketball teams — an elite high school team which plays a national schedule and two post-graduate programs.
Philon has scored 2,334 career points and is ranked No. 38 on the On3 Consensus.
Philon chose Auburn over Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Kansas, Tennessee, Louisville, Cincinnati and LSU, among others. In a June 6 interview with 247 Sports, Philon said he is still open to revisiting Auburn, as well as Alabama, Ole Miss, Houston and Kansas.
