Spanish Fort pulls away to beat St. Paul’s as Toros, Saints, McGill-Toolen wrap up 2, 3 and 4 playoff seeds

MOBILE — Spanish Fort pulled away with two fourth-quarter touchdowns to defeat St. Paul’s 27-13 Friday night at E.E. Delaney Stadium, secure the second playoff seed from 6A Region 1 and a home game in the first round of the postseason.

The Saints (8-2, 6-2) had fought back from a 13-0 halftime deficit to the tie game but the Toros (8-2, 6-2) put the game away in the fourth quarter on Caleb Chesser’s 19-yard pick-six and E.J. King’s 19-yard TD run with 1:25 left.

Spanish Fort quarterback Aaden Shamburger ran for 157 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns and was 14-of-18 passing for 73 yards.

Tate Johnston scored on a 1-yard run and a 74-yard touchdown reception for St. Paul’s, which visits Helena as the region’s third playoff seed Friday.

The Toros will host Benjamin Russell in the first round.

BAY MINETTE — Andrew Murchison tossed a pair of touchdown passes as the Yellow Jackets rolled past the Tigers to clinch the fourth and final playoff seed from 6A Region 1.

Murchison completed 6 of 9 passes for 170 yards, throwing TD passes of 32 and 72 yards to Christopher Suggs.

Ladarien Miller added 105 yards on 13 carries and scored on a 58-yard run and a pair of 1-yard runs.

McGill-Toolen (6-4, 5-3) visits Spain Park in the first round of the playoffs.

Cottage Hill 21,

St. Luke’s 0

Shamar Toodle threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score as the visiting Warriors shut out the rival Wildcats.

In the second quarter, Toodle fired a 45-yard TD pass to Kez Thomas for a 7-0 halftime lead. Toodle broke loose for a 27-yard scoring run midway through the third quarter and tossed a 22-yard TD pass to Caleb Metzner in the fourth quarter.

Ryland Yasurek recovered a fumble and Bryce Jordan intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble for St. Luke’s (4-5), which visits Highland Home in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs. Cottage Hill finished 3-7.
