MOBILE — Junior quarterback Anthony Gill completed 16 of 26 passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns and No. 2-ranked Class 4A Vigor overcame numerous penalties to beat Blount 28-7 in the annual Battle of Prichard at Ladd-Peebles Stadium Saturday night.

Zy Wilson grabbed two touchdown passes of 32 and 6 yards and Demetris Johnson ran for a TD for the Wolves, who had 18 penalties for 129 yards.

“It’s always good to win and it’s better to at 1-0 instead of 0-1,” Vigor coach Renardo Jackson said. “I can’t say we played a clean game, so we’re going to go and watch the film and figure out a way to clean it up.”

The Leopards’ KeeVaughn Johnson ran for 73 yards on 17 carries and scored on a 1-yard run.

The Wolves led 8-0 in the first quarter when Gill found Terrell Prince on a 13-yard touchdown pass. Wilson’s 32-yard scoring reception and Johnson’s 3-yard scoring run in the second quarter made it 21-0.

Blount narrowed the lead to 21-7 on Johnson’s 1-yard score but Wilson grabbed his second touchdown reception of the night from 6 yards out to make it 28-7 with 9:31 left.

It was Vigor’s seventh straight win in a series it leads 41-14.
