MOBILE — Max Fowler’s 10-yard touchdown pass to Richard Scott in the second overtime gave No. 3-ranked UMS-Wright a 33-27 victory over No. 5 Montgomery Catholic at Erwin S. Cooper Stadium Thursday night.
Scott’s touchdown reception was set up by Thomas Delong’s interception of Will Blackwell on the Knights’ possession in the second overtime.
Fowler was 19-of-31 passing for 170 yards and three touchdowns, two to Scott. Fowler also scored on a 2-yard run and Timothy Davidson caught a 5-yard TD pass for the Bulldogs (6-1, 5-0 Class AA Region 1).
“Richard Scott has really been good for us all year and when we put him out to slot receiver, it’s been really good for him,” UMS-Wright coach Sam Williams said. “Montgomery Catholic came out in the second half, ran the ball and slowed the game down. That team’s only given up 15 points a game, so to get 33 is big.”
The Knights (5-3, 4-1) were Kaiden Johnson’s 84 yards on 21 carries and Blackwell’s touchdown passes of 9 yards to Tymori Player and 12 yards to Weston Bell. Blackwell was 18-of-40 passing for 195 yards and had a 1-yard scoring run but was intercepted twice.
The Bulldogs took a 27-24 lead in the first overtime on Donald Urquhart’s 27-yard field goal. Montgomery Catholic tied it on its overtime possession on Joao Pedro Costa’s 27-yard field goal.

Jordan Jackson had a 14-yard touchdown run and Ellis McGaskin had 12 tackles for the Lions, who have allowed only 25 points all season.
“Defensively, we started off a little slow because we tried to put some younger kids in and get them some experience,” Williamson coach Antonio Coleman said. “That was the focus of this game and then we got better.”
The Lions led 21-7 at halftime and held Citronelle (5-2, 2-2) scoreless the rest of the way. The Wildcats’ only score came on Tim Rivers’ 4-yard TD run in the second quarter.
